Permission to connect & share

Building a community that listens, understands, and walks together through the highs and lows of life.

Connect
"The Mental Health Movement began from a deeply personal realization. I reached a point where I started to truly recognize how I was feeling mentally — the weight, the isolation, and the quiet struggle that so many of us carry behind the scenes.

There were moments I felt completely alone, without a place or community to turn to for support or understanding."

Founder, mental health advocate

Creating a Movement

"If I was feeling this way, knowing the burdens and stresses I was carrying, I couldn’t help but wonder: How must others feel who are facing even greater challenges? That question stayed with me and became the driving force behind creating a space where people could connect, share, and find strength in one another."

This Movement was born from that awareness — to remind people that none of us are truly alone, and that reaching out, talking, and supporting one another can change lives. It’s about building a community that listens, understands, and walks together through the highs and lows of life. I want to allow people to have the “Permission” to talk about their feelings and emotions freely.

The Mental Health Movement was formally formed in 2024 by myself, Daryl McAvena. We hosted our first event in May of 2024 which was a Men’s Mental Health Movie Night that brought together over 100 men from all walks of life to come together and network, socialize and more importantly realize that no one walks alone on their journey. We provided a safe space for individuals to show emotion and talk about their separate journey’s of life, whether it be successes or struggles.

In 2025, we hosted the 2nd Annual Men’s Mental Health Movie Night and this time, had over 180 men for the same purpose.

Our Mission

To provide the space to allow men and women “permission” to talk about their emotions and feelings.

Our Vision

To see 50,000+ people take the first step to ask for help by opening venues across Alberta focused on mental health fitness, education, and resources.

Testimonials

I had a great time at the Men's Health Movement, and got a lot out of it. I work in the construction industry, so it was a great space that focused on both physical and mental strength in a real, practical way. Left feeling motivated, supported, and glad I got involved. Looking forward to the next one!

Recently, I attended a Men's Mental Health Movie Night that brought together guys from all over southern Alberta for an evening filled with fellowship, inspiring keynote speakers, and open conversations. Listening to our community share their positive experiences and insights, I feel empowered to join the next event and bring along a few of my friends!

Attendees praised our keynote speakers for their powerful messages on men's mental health, emphasizing the need for open dialogue and connection. Many expressed how the event made them feel understood and empowered to discuss their struggles. We're committed to providing spaces that encourage vulnerability and promote help-seeking, and we appreciate everyone's participation in this vital conversation.
